Room to Read
Room to Read's Indigenous Book Collection is addressing a critical gap in Native representation and early-grade literacy. Seven children's books, each authored and illustrated by members of Indigenous nations, are putting stories in the hands of children who rarely see their languages, cultures, or communities reflected on the page.
Created in partnership with Black Bears and Blueberries, a Native-owned publisher, these bilingual books feature English alongside each author's Native language—centering Indigenous voices and preserving words and phrases at risk of being lost. 14,000 copies will reach more than 33,000 students across classrooms, libraries, and communities in the U.S. and beyond, strengthening both literacy skills and cultural connection.
